Madhumati (1958)

Music, mist and the landscape give recognition a life beyond what the characters can explain. Dilip Kumar and Vyjayanthimala make the romance emotionally direct. The supernatural melodrama is gentler than the modern horror here, rewarding viewers who want longing and a haunted atmosphere to develop together.
