Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000)

A stolen sword opens a conflict between restraint and desire, expressed through bodies that seem able to escape gravity. Ang Lee makes the courtyard and treetop encounters emotionally distinct rather than interchangeable displays. Choose this for lyrical martial arts and an affecting ensemble; the romantic tragedy matters as much as winning a fight.
