Aliens (1986)

Ripley's return to the alien threat shifts from isolated horror to a military rescue that steadily loses its confidence. Cameron gives the squad and its equipment enough definition for their failures to be frightening. The theatrical cut keeps the pressure tighter; the longer version adds context. Both work best after Alien and remain intense horror as well as action.
