Children of Men (2006)

Alfonso Cuarón makes a world without a future feel close to the present through streets, bureaucracy and casual brutality. Clive Owen's reluctant involvement gives the film a human route through its collapsing institutions. The long, carefully organised action scenes matter because they keep vulnerability visible inside the chaos, not simply because they display technical skill.
