The End of August at the Hotel Ozone (1967)
Movie
Released
Jan Schmidt follows women moving through an almost empty post-apocalyptic landscape, where memories of a different life are becoming difficult to preserve. The spare black-and-white images make the loss feel material rather than spectacular. An austere Czech discovery about the erosion of ordinary values, with casual cruelty and animal killing that distinguish it from a comforting survival story.
