Why do George and Lorraine never remark on their son's resemblance to the teenager who changed their lives? Thirty years and a brief acquaintance make imperfect recognition plausible, so this familiar 'hole' is a generous memory stretch, not a contradiction. The time-travel comedy stays irresistible because Marty's frantic attempt to repair his parents' romance makes a family photograph feel like a ticking bomb.
