A casual conversation becomes dangerous when one man treats an outrageous hypothetical as an agreement. Robert Walker gives the intrusion charm as well as menace, making refusal seem less secure than it should. Hitchcock builds suspense from the unequal seriousness with which two people interpret the same encounter.
