Rear Window (1954)

James Stewart's confined photographer watches his neighbours until ordinary behaviour begins to suggest a crime. Hitchcock makes the audience share both the excitement and the dubious ethics of that attention. Grace Kelly gives the investigation a lively counterweight, making this a particularly accessible demonstration of suspense built from where a character can and cannot look.
