Deep Cover (1992)

Laurence Fishburne makes undercover work feel like an increasingly unstable arrangement with the institutions that authorised it. Bill Duke gives the Los Angeles night a vivid visual identity, while Jeff Goldblum adds an unpredictable criminal ambition. Its value beyond the familiar premise lies in the political anger with which it examines who benefits from the operation.
