The Drop (2014)

Tom Hardy makes a Brooklyn bartender's apparent simplicity difficult to interpret, while James Gandolfini gives disappointed ambition a blunt weight. Michaël R. Roskam lets neighbourhood relationships turn small incidents into dangerous obligations. The film rewards patience with a carefully changing sense of character rather than trying to impress through an oversized criminal conspiracy.
