Once Upon a Time in the West (1968)

Sergio Leone lets faces, sounds and prolonged waiting turn a struggle over land into an enormous cinematic ritual. Claudia Cardinale gives the changing world an essential human centre. The scale and deliberate pace reward a patient viewing, especially for those who enjoy a western's atmosphere as much as its eventual confrontations.
