Unforgiven (1992)

Clint Eastwood makes an ageing killer's return to violence a test of the stories people tell about ability, honour and deserved punishment. The severe pacing allows fear and incompetence to remain visible. Its revision of heroic western mythology is strongest when violence feels irreversible rather than an efficient solution.
