Ulzana's Raid (1972)

Burt Lancaster's experienced scout and a younger officer approach an Apache pursuit with sharply different assumptions. Robert Aldrich makes the mismatch a sustained argument about violence, judgement and the dangers of moral certainty without knowledge. Its graphic cruelty and limited military viewpoint require attention, but the refusal of easy explanations gives it a distinctive force.
