The Hired Hand (1971)

Peter Fonda directs and stars in a western whose strongest attachment is to work, home and the difficulty of returning to a life left behind. Vilmos Zsigmond's photography gives the spaces a reflective beauty. This quiet early-1970s discovery rewards patience before its violence interrupts the possibility of an ordinary future.
