Tadanobu Asano

Asano's starring role in Vital (2004) is an unsettling place to go after seeing his supporting turn as Hogun in Thor (2011). Vital follows an amnesiac medical student through dissection, memory and grief, asking him to sustain attention through stillness. Thor uses his compact warrior presence within a colourful ensemble. The earlier film is graphic and inward-looking, a substantial change from recognising him at the edge of a superhero adventure.
