Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Guillermo del Toro places a child's dark fantasy beside the brutality of Francoist Spain without making either a simple escape from the other. The creature design is unforgettable because the film gives its temptations consequences. This is a violent adult fairy tale, not a reassuring family adventure.
