Brokeback Mountain (2005)

Ang Lee makes the landscape around two Wyoming ranch hands feel spacious while the lives available to them remain painfully narrow. Heath Ledger's guardedness and Jake Gyllenhaal's frustrated hope give the relationship different emotional tempos. Its great strength is how much a small gesture can carry after years of silence.
