A History of Violence (2005)

David Cronenberg makes an apparently ordinary man's sudden violence disturb his family's understanding of intimacy. Viggo Mortensen's restraint keeps competing identities alive. The action is brief and consequential, making the film's questions about the attraction of violent competence difficult to dismiss.
