Tsotsi (2005)

Presley Chweneyagae gives a young Johannesburg criminal the defensive intensity of someone with very little practice at care. Gavin Hood's film risks broad symbolism but finds concrete emotional power in small practical encounters. The stolen car's unexpected passenger changes the terms of the story.
