Lady Bird (2017)

Saoirse Ronan and Laurie Metcalf make a mother-daughter argument feel like a continuing form of intimacy. Greta Gerwig's brisk transitions preserve the disproportionate importance of small adolescent decisions. The comedy's specificity is what allows the larger feelings about home to arrive without being announced.
