The Happiest Day in the Life of Olli Mäki (2016)

Juho Kuosmanen lets a Finnish boxer's preparations compete with his growing interest in an ordinary romance. The black-and-white images and understated humour resist the grand significance everyone wants to assign the title fight. A Cannes-recognised discovery for viewers curious about a sporting life whose best possibilities may lie outside winning.
