Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981)

Indiana Jones survives by improvising badly enough to remain human. The desert chase and trapped chambers each offer clear physical problems, while the serial rhythm keeps discovery and danger close together. A brisk starting point for adventure cinema, with dated portrayals of other cultures and a memorably gruesome supernatural climax.
