Spirited Away (2001)

A frightened child learns the rules of a working spirit world without turning every mystery into an explanation. Hayao Miyazaki makes curiosity and consideration as useful as courage, giving the journey an unusually generous emotional shape. An absorbing animated adventure for adults as well as families, with transformations that can feel genuinely uncanny.
