Logan (2017)

Hugh Jackman gives an ageing Wolverine a body that can no longer make violence seem effortless. James Mangold uses a road journey and an uneasy family connection to question what survival has cost. Familiarity with the X-Men helps, but its severe violence and bleakness matter more to choosing it than encyclopaedic continuity.
