Superman (1978)

Christopher Reeve makes immense power convincing through gentleness and comic timing as much as physical assurance. Richard Donner gives wonder and romantic play room to develop before the large threats. This 1978 film remains a rewarding starting point for superhero cinema built around the pleasure of believing someone could help.
