The Rocketeer (1991)

Billy Campbell's accidental airborne hero gives Joe Johnston's adventure a winning mixture of resourcefulness and vulnerability. The period design and practical-looking flight make the pulp fantasy tangible. A cult favourite beyond the dominant franchises, it is worth seeking for straightforward excitement shaped by an appealing sense of craft and place.
