Under Jordan's leadership, Australia's ATO implemented Simpler BAS in 2017, reducing the GST fields that eligible small businesses needed to report from seven to three. It removed reporting distinctions rather than merely moving an unchanged form online. The change was part of government policy delivered with agency staff, advisers and software providers. Fewer boxes did not abolish record-keeping or the underlying GST rules, but they supplied a concrete way to reduce routine reporting work.
