Lázaro Ramos

Ramos plays Joao Francisco dos Santos in Madame Sata (Brazil, 2002), a film inspired by the drag performer and street fighter's life in 1930s Rio. Performance, desire, racism and violence all shape the role. It is an intense introduction to his physical presence: the character's hunger to perform remains inseparable from the struggle to exist on his own terms in the city around him.
