Spirited Away (2001)

Hayao Miyazaki gives a spirit bathhouse the density of a working town, with creatures whose designs remain memorable without needing an explanation. Chihiro's small acts of courage hold the abundance together. The strongest starting point for viewers who want animation's visual freedom joined to an emotionally clear journey; some transformations are unsettling.
