Melancholia (2011)

Kirsten Dunst makes the apparent failure to perform happiness at a wedding increasingly difficult to separate from another kind of perception. Lars von Trier gives depression a spectacular cosmic scale. The result is demanding, often abrasive viewing, with its strongest images making private paralysis and universal threat disturbingly compatible.
