The Tree of Life (2011)

Terrence Malick lets a remembered childhood expand into a question about the place of an individual life inside an immense world. Brad Pitt and Jessica Chastain give the family images a physical emotional anchor. Its ambitious form rewards viewers willing to follow association, sound and movement rather than a conventional narrated argument.
