The Kid with a Bike (2011)

Thomas Doret's determined movement gives the child's need for attachment a physical urgency. The Dardennes keep a bicycle, a journey and an offered gesture of care dramatically specific. The film's generosity earns its force because trust remains something difficult to practise rather than an automatic reward for good intentions.
