Mary and Max (2009)

Adam Elliot makes clay's awkward textures suit an unlikely correspondence between two lonely people. The jokes are often blunt, but the film gives difficulty and affection room to coexist without demanding a neat transformation. An adult discovery with bullying, depression and suicide-related material, rather than a cute pen-pal story implied by the small figures.
