Anatomy of a Fall (2023)

Sandra Hüller lets a disputed marriage remain contradictory instead of offering the jury a reassuringly coherent self. Milo Machado-Graner's alert, uncertain listening gives the questioning consequences beyond the lawyers' argument. The movement between languages also changes who can explain themselves easily. It is gripping because a persuasive account need not feel identical to an understandable life.
