Lupita Nyong'o missed an Actress in a Leading Role nomination at the 2020 ceremony, where Renée Zellweger won for Judy. In Us, her contrasting roles depend on more than a changed voice. The same gesture can carry protective urgency in one body and terrifying deliberation in the other. That physical conversation gives the film's doubling a force the explanations cannot supply alone. A persuasive case for recognising horror as a demanding acting arena.
