The Long Good Friday (1980)

A London crime boss discovers that the city he thinks he owns contains forces he does not understand. Bob Hoskins makes confidence and panic almost continuous, while Helen Mirren gives the central partnership an essential second intelligence. A British classic offered as a discovery beyond the usual American gangster canon, with political violence and relentless pressure.
