Devil in a Blue Dress (1995)

Denzel Washington's Easy Rawlins enters private investigation through an urgent practical need rather than a romantic idea of the job. Carl Franklin gives post-war Los Angeles a social density often missing from noir nostalgia. A richly rewarding discovery for character and setting, with racism, sexual exploitation and violence shaping the mystery.
