James Farley

Before television, a national candidacy could be assembled encounter by encounter. Missouri organiser James Aylward recalls bringing rival Democratic factions together for Farley during Roosevelt's nomination campaign. Farley's contribution was to connect those locally arranged introductions to the national effort, making the relationships between party organisations part of the campaign's working infrastructure.
