Gary Oldman's corrupt officer Stansfield behaves as though the room should accommodate his private performance. A sudden stillness can be as alarming as an eruption, making the danger difficult to time. Léon: The Professional offers the most operatic excess in this group of police villains, set against Jean Reno's guarded manner. The film's sexualised framing around a young girl and its violence towards a family are substantial reasons to approach the surrounding story cautiously.
