Infernal Affairs (2002)
Movie
Released
Eric Tsang's Hon Sam can make a meal or an apparently relaxed exchange feel like part of a larger arrangement. His compact authority contrasts with the visible strain of the men keeping double identities alive. Infernal Affairs is the cleaner, more economical counterpart to The Departed here. Sam's influence matters because an order can travel through the city without his needing to dominate every scene, giving the central police-and-triad puzzle its surrounding pressure.
