The 46664 campaign gives a specific shape to Mandela's public work after his presidency ended in 1999. Launched in 2003, it brought musicians and other supporters into HIV/AIDS awareness and fundraising. His visibility helped convene a campaign whose continuing work depended on health organisations and other partners.
