Jack Brooks (American politician)
Person
Born
Brooks helped carry the legislation that separated the US National Archives from the General Services Administration, effective in 1985. Protecting records and challenging their improper disposal gained a more distinct institutional home. The change supported accountability through documentary evidence, although the Archives remained within the executive branch rather than becoming an authority beyond all presidential influence.
