John Denham (politician)

Denham resigned on the morning of 18 March 2003 and explained his decision during the Commons debate on Iraq. He accepted that serious security threats required action but argued that a pre-emptive intervention demanded an international consensus the government had not secured. His objection was therefore to the basis and likely consequences of this action, not a claim that force could never be justified.
