Liz Sugg, Baroness Sugg
Person
Born
Sugg left her ministerial post in November 2020 when the government announced that overseas aid would fall from 0.7% to 0.5% of gross national income. Her letter argued that the commitment should hold in difficult times as well as favourable ones. The government cited fiscal pressure; she judged that argument insufficient. This is a clear case of accepting the personal consequence of collective responsibility over a defined spending pledge.
