Milton S. Hershey

Hershey sold his Lancaster caramel business for US$1 million in 1900 while retaining the chocolate operation. He then built a manufacturing business around making milk chocolate accessible to a broad market. The sale price belongs to that historical transaction; the more revealing ownership story is the chocolate enterprise and its later connection to the school trust.
