Prince (musician)

The Revolution complicates the image of Prince as a completely solitary creator. Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman's accounts describe musical exchange, experimentation and contributions that deserve to be heard as more than support for a famous bandleader. Start with the records from that period and their interviews about making and performing the music. Prince's intense direction is part of the story, but so is the creative force of the people he brought together. A distinctive team can strengthen an artist's identity precisely because its members have ideas of their own.
