Aponte built MSC from a single-vessel shipping operation into an extensive container network. Privately held ownership allowed the family to accumulate value as the business expanded into terminals and land transport. MSC announced in April 2026 that ownership had transferred to his children in late 2025, so the enterprise he built should not be described as his unchanged personal holding.
