Jamsetji Tata

Jamsetji Tata's operating manufacturing fortune began in textiles. At Empress Mills in Nagpur, proximity to cotton and investment in machinery supported a profitable enterprise; rescuing Svadeshi Mills later required him to commit personal resources and sell some shares. He planned a major steel business but died before it began production, so the textile mills provide the clearest link between his own lifetime wealth and factory ownership.
