Anna Soubry

Soubry left the Conservatives in February 2019, objecting to their direction and the government's handling of Brexit. She led the Independent Group for Change into the general election, but finished third in Broxtowe and lost the Commons seat she had held since 2010. Her profile as a former minister and prominent opponent of Brexit did not translate into a durable local majority outside the Conservative organisation. The result records electoral failure; it cannot establish a single motive shared by everyone who voted against her.
