Cheng Yu-tung

Cheng expanded from the Chow Tai Fook jewellery business into property through New World Development, established in 1970. The family's interests in the listed developer connected commercial projects, housing and hotels to an already substantial business base. Ownership ran through holding companies, making the relationship between family and corporate assets especially important. Development enlarged a fortune that also had significant roots in jewellery retailing.
